Office client management via SCCM 1602 or letter

Issue reported: 

After Deploying office 365 Client update its not visible on system center manager on client side.

Purpose: This article has been written to help you understand the existing Patch management with help us to understand Office365 Client management via SCCM 1606 and provided solution for the various customer as best practices.

Intended Audience :

CM team and Office 365 compliance management administrators. This document is also intended for anyone who wants to gain knowledge on the current infrastructure environment, its processes, and operating procedures.

Applicable Environments.

Office 365 Client Management via SCCM 1606 Prerequisite via SCCM

To enable Configuration Manager to manage Office 365 client updates, you need the following:

    • System Center Configuration Manager, at least update 1602 OR Letter for Tech Preview

    • An Office 365 client Office 365 ProPlus, Visio Pro for Office 365, Project Online Desktop Client, or Office 365 Business.

    • For the Office 365 client, be using at least the following channel and version:

                   Current Channel, Version 1602 (Build 6741.2017)

    • First Release for Deferred Channel, Version 1602 (Build 6741.2014)

    • Deferred Channel, Version 1602 (Build 6741.2048)

    • Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 4.0

You can’t use WSUS by itself to deploy these updates. You need to use WSUS in conjunction with Configuration Manager

On the computers that have the Office 365 client installed, the Office COM object is enabled.

To start, you need to configure Configuration Manager to receive notifications when Office 365 client update packages are available. To do that, use the following steps:

For Configuration Manager to be able to manage Office 365 client updates, an Office COM object needs to be enabled on the computer where Office is installed. The Office COM object takes commands from Configuration Manager to download and install client updates.

You can enable the Office COM object by using the Office Deployment Tool or by using Group Policy.
