SCCM 1606 Image deployment failed with HRESULT=80070490

Issue Reported:

Task sequence failed with with error 80070490

Below is error on smsts.log.

Cause:

The problem can occur if the incorrect image is trying to be applied during the “Apply Operating System Image” task. At the “Apply Operating System Image” task, an image that contains a Windows OS needs to be selected. If a data image is selected instead, the errors will occur. To apply data images, use the “Apply Data Image” task.

The problem usually occurs because of an error in selection when setting up the Task Sequence. If the WIM file selected at the “Apply Operating System Image” task contains multiple images, including at least one Windows OS image and at least one Data image, the image index with the Windows OS needs to be selected. If the image index with the Data image is selected instead, then the error will occur.

Note that the GUI for the “Apply Operating System Image” task does not check if the appropriate image has been selected, nor does it indicate which image index is the one that contains the Windows OS. However steps can be taken to make this determination.

Solution:

Step 1: Open SCCM 2012 or Letter Console –> Click on Software Library –> Click on Overview –> Expand Operating Systems –> Click on Operating System Images –> Select Image –> Right Click and Click on Properties –> Click on Image as show in below screen shoots

Finding:

Point 1: If we select 1-1 Image then os information is missing

Point 2: If we select 2-2 Image then We are getting all the require image information so While creating task sequence we need to select 2-2 for success full execute task sequence.

Follow This step for getting change on Task sequence –   Open SCCM 2012 or Letter Console –> Click on Software Library –> Click on Overview –> Expand Operating Systems –> Click on Task Sequences–> Select deployed task sequence –> Right click on task sequence –> Click on EDIT –> Select Apply operating system and change Image Index 2-2 –> Apply and OK.

After doing above change start deploy image. You will not get reported error.

Happy Learning!!!
