Effortless Patch and Software Deployment for Linux Devices with ManageEngine Endpoint Central

Keeping Linux devices up-to-date and secure is critical for maintaining IT infrastructure stability. ManageEngine Endpoint Central offers a centralized solution for both patch deployment and software deployment, ensuring seamless management of vulnerabilities and applications across Linux endpoints. This guide provides a detailed walkthrough for deploying patches and software packages to Linux devices using Endpoint Central. 

Patch Deployment for Linux Devices   

  1. ConfiguringPatchDeploymen

    • Scanning for Missing Patches   
      • Log in to the Endpoint Central console 
      • Navigate to Threats & Patches > Systems > Scan Systems 
      • Select the target Linux devices or groups and click Scan Now 
      • Once the scan completes, view the missing patches under Threats & Patches > Patches > Missing Patches. 
  2. Deploying Patches Manually
     

    • Access Patch Deployment 
      • Go to Threats & Patches > Deployment > Manual Deployment 
    • Select Patches 
      • Choose the required patches from the missing patches list 
    • Target Devices 
      • Select Linux devices or groups to deploy the patches.  
    • Deployment Schedule 
      • Deploy Immediately: Starts deployment instantly.  
      • Schedule Deployment: Set a specific time and date.  
    • Click Deploy 
      • Initiates the patch deployment process.  
  3. Automating Patch Deployment 
  • Navigate to Threats & Patches >Automate Patch Deployment.
     
     
  • Click Automate task and select OS to configure: 
     
     

    • Select Application: Select which Updates to deploy automatically. 
       
       
    • Choose Deployment Settings: Set up recurring or one-time deployment schedules.

    • Define Targets: Select Devices or group.

    • Pre & Post deployment activities: Configure User Notification & system reboot behavior.
 

Software Deployment for Linux Devices
  

  1. Preparing the Software Package

    • Go to Software Deployment > Package Creation > Templates.
       
       
    • Select the Applications to deploy then click create package
  2. Configure Package Details:   
    • Go to Software Deployment > Deployment > Install/Uninstall Software and Select computer configuration for Linux 
    • Select App Deployment Policy and Target Linux Devices or group.  
    • Click Deploy to initiate software deployment process.
